Streetbank Guidelines

Streetbank is founded on the principle that people behave in a decent, responsible and generous way. However, very, very occasionally people do not. We cannot take responsibility or arbitrate when things go wrong but we offer a few common sense guidelines below to keep you safe and to reduce the risk of a disagreement.

Being Nice

  • Do unto others, etc - We would suggest that in all your dealings you follow the golden rule. Always treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.
  • When borrowing - endeavour to bring the item back in the same condition it was in when you picked it up - or better
  • When lending - we would suggest you only offer items that are robust, not too valuable and that you can live without.
  • When things go wrong - we would suggest that you assume more responsibility than you think is rightfully yours. So if, for instance, a string in a tennis racket breaks - probably 90% of the reason is due to previous usage. If you are the lender we don’t think you should assume that the "lendee" will do anything more than return it with an apology. If are the lendee you have an opportunity to make a friend forever by insisting that you pay for it to be restrung, or making a contribution or even by getting it restrung yourself before returning it. Going the extra mile is time and money well spent.

Being Safe

When lending or collecting - we would suggest that have a friend with you, or meet in a nice friendly public place like a lovely little cafe or the village green.

Crime

If you’ve been a victim of crime, and we hope you wont be, the first thing to do is to report it to the police. We can’t report a criminal offence to the police on your behalf, but we always assist the police in their investigations once you’ve reported it. The simplest way is to go to your local police station or call the local police operator on a non-emergency number.

The police may need these from you:

  • Essential details such as the nature, date and time of the offence, and the name and contact details of the victim and suspect(s).
  • Any email exchanges between you and other person.

Finally, Do Have Fun

StreetBank is a lovely fun community. People make lasting friendships, and communities are made nicer. We would encourage you to have fun, to take a few (sensible and safe) chances, to request items, and to get involved.
